What we know about the first fatal Boeing Dreamliner crash

A view shows the rubble of an aircraft Air India, which is bound after Gatwick Airport in London and has crashed from an airport in Ahmedabad, India, June 12, 2025 during the start.

An aircraft from Air India that was to London and was wearing 242 people Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The crash killed at least 270 people in the state of Gujarat, the officials said on Saturday.
It was the first crash of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner and was the deadliest plane crash in years.
Here is what to know:
What kind of level was that?
The plane was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. It is a popular Twin-Aisle jet that is used for longer routes.
The first flight of this aircraft took place in December 2013 and was handed over to Air India in January 2014, according to the aviation data company Cirium.
From Thursday, Air India had 34 of them on duty, including this aircraft, and it had plans to order at least 20 more, said Cirium. The airline has built up its fleet with modern jets from Boeing and rival Airbus and installed more luxurious cabins.
More than 1,100 Dreamliners fly worldwide.
What happened on this flight?
Preliminary data show that the signal from the aircraft was lost at 1:38 p.m. local time, less than a minute after the start of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, according to Flight tracker Flightradar24.
The aircraft reached a maximum height of 625 feet, although the airport height is about 200 feet, FLIGHTRADAR found.
It is not clear why the plane lost the height so quickly before it fell into a fireball in a residential area. Other deaths were reported to the local media.
Air accidents can be caused by a variety of factors, from mechanical problems to wild animals and often more than one problem.
What will the investigators look at?
The responders comb the rubble for the so-called black boxes: the cockpit and flight data recorder. These will provide veneturizers on what happened on the flight.
Crash investigators will everything from the airline's maintenance records to the maneuvers of the pilots, the position of the aircraft as well as the slats and flaps on the wings, the starting weight and configuration of the aircraft, the training of the pilots and the recent break and the weather conditions on the hot day when the temperatures of about 100 degrees were about.
You will also examine videos from the incident, including the Ahmedabad aircraft, where his chassis after the start, which is very common.
According to international protocols, the country in which the incident took place will carry out the examination during the manufacturer of the aircraft, Boeing and the engine manufacturer of the aircraft. Aerospaceas well as the US Federal Minister will participate.
There were already manufacturing and quality concerns regarding Dreamliners. Are you related?
It is not immediately clear, and a final report on the fall systems may not be available until next year, but some experts have dropped a manufacturing problem, also because the plane has been flying for more than a decade.
“I don't think this is a production or production problem,” said Jeff Guzzetti, a retired air safety investigator from the US National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
He said it was too early to say what the problem – or problems – because air accidents often contain several mistakes.
“It seems that the aircraft rose from the runway without any problems, but for some reason it couldn't climb,” he said.
Boeing previously had problems with the Dreamliner, but an immediate connection was not visible, experts said.
A whistleblower claimed last year that Boeing took abbreviations on 787 to reduce bottlenecks and to create “excessive stress” for large aircraft connections. Boeing denied the allegations.
The deliveries of the aircraft were also grounded for about a year by mid -2022, since the manufacturing errors in which parts of the fuselage were not properly distributed.
After the Dreamliner was put into service for the first time in 2011, the aircraft were grounded to inspections due to fears of lithium battery seasons.
What does that mean for Boeing?
Kelly Ortberg, CEO von Boeing, who took over the management last August, worked for a number of security and manufacturing crises to move the manufacturer, a TOP -SUS exporter, out of the spotlight.
The company was already handled 737 Max -Jets from two accidents of its bestsellers when a door plug was blown out from a new Max 9 in early 2024.
The effects on Boeing will depend on the crash examination. The demand for new aircraft was still robust, and airlines often continue to give orders because the waiting time can stretch for several years.
Wolfe Research announced on Thursday in a note: “We don't see many direct effects on financial performance, but this is certainly a dynamic until solid clarity is granted.
“As a result, we see no effect on the production ramp and would expect the demand to have an effect very minimally (and localized),” wrote Wolfe. “Any feedback loop for the certification of the [yet-to-be-certified] 777x, but it is very early to shoot every risk there. “
According to his website, Boeing has orders for 900 other Dreamliners.
