Quavo and Offset of Migos reunite for the Takeoff tribute at the 2023 BET Awards
Quavo and Offset teamed up for a Migos reunion at the BET Awards, and it was an emotional comeback.
The rappers, who co-founded the influential rap group Atlanta with the late rapper Takeoff, took to the stage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday to honor their former bandmate, who passed away in November.
Quavo and Offset opened their BET number with a performance of “Hotel Lobby” and grooved together on stage before an enlarged image of Takeoff appeared on the screen behind them. The rappers then joined in with the group’s signature hit “Bad and Boujee” while pyrotechnics exploded behind them.
Sunday night marked the first time the two had performed together since Takeoff’s death.
Fans took to social media to express their joy at seeing the Migos rappers back on stage together.
“Offset and Quavo reuniting for Takeoff is the best thing ever,” wrote user @updatesofcardi on Twitter.
“Quavo and Offset are performing together again. This is what we needed,” tweeted user @leesogolden.
“I’m touched by Quavo and Offset’s performance together,” user @Cloud9inedreams wrote on Twitter.
Quavo and Offset also shared the performance on social media. “For The Rocket ❤️🩹🚀,” Quavo wrote in a post. In another instance, he captioned photos of him and Offset from the performance, “Do This For The Fam Cuz This Shhh Bigger Than Me!”
Offset posted a video with the same caption.
Takeoff, born Kirsnik Khari Ball, died on November 1 after being shot as more than 30 people left a private party at a Houston bowling center. Police said the shooting stemmed from a disagreement over a “lucrative” dice game, but Takeoff was not involved and was “an innocent bystander”. His mother is now suing the bowling alley.
All three Migos members grew up together in the Atlanta area, with Quavo and Takeoff sharing family ties and close friend Offset joining the duo in their teens. Quavo said he and Takeoff “hated the word nephew” because they felt their relationship was closer.
Quavo and Offset reunited earlier this week to celebrate Takeoff’s 29th birthday on June 18th. Quavo posted a series of photos to Instagram on Monday as his family members gathered to visit a takeoff mural, wearing T-shirts with the late rapper’s photo on them. Offset was included in one of the group pictures.
“EVERYTHING TO TAKE!” Quavo captioned the post.
