Sheriff turns to Susan Lorincz after The Perfect Neighbor’s release

Where is Susan Lorincz now?

Lorincz pleaded not guilty in court and shed light on Florida’s controversial “Stand Your Ground” self-protection law, which allows deadly force if, according to the law, a person “reasonably believes that the use or threat of such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or serious bodily harm.”

But Lorincz was convicted of manslaughter on August 16, 2024. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison on November 25th.

“I believe the shooting was completely unnecessary,” said Marion County District Court Judge Robert Hodges said in court. “In this case, Ms. Lorincz was behind the door. The door was locked.”

According to the Florida Department of Corrections, which lists her release date as April 8, 2048, Lorincz is currently serving her sentence at Homestead Correctional Institution in Florida City.

“I am so sorry for taking AJ’s life,” Lorincz said at her hearing. “I never intended to kill her. I’m just deeply saddened. Not only a mother died, but also a daughter, a sister. I think about the loss of your family.”

She claims she feared for her life that night, telling ABC affiliate WCJB from prison in September 2025: “I never saw the shot before. I was just so scared. I remember I was shaking, I was crying. It was terrible.”

When asked whether she was capable of murder, she said no.

“It just makes me sick what happened,” Lorincz said. “I just never in a million years thought something like this would happen. It breaks my heart… I wish I could change things.”
