Reuters announces that ValueAct is demanding that Seven & i spin off retail chain 7-Eleven

Reuters was first to report that hedge fund ValueAct Capital had urged Seven & i Holdings shareholders to support a spin-off of the company’s 7-Eleven convenience store chain, arguing that it would harm the conglomerate’s valuation and corporate governance would improve. The US-based investment firm, which owns a 4.4% stake in the Japanese company and has been pushing for changes for at least a year, wrote a letter reviewed by Reuters, urging shareholders to give their views on the matter to the Board of Seven & I
