Kathy Hilton reveals how she found out about her grandson

Paris Hilton is a genius when it comes to late Christmas gifts. In an interview with Extra on March 17, Paris’ mother Kathy Hilton revealed she had no idea she had a grandchild on the way until her daughter placed baby Phoenix in her arms. “I was shocked, I was totally shocked,” she said of meeting her grandson for the first time.

“We didn’t have our Christmas together because she was working abroad. She said ‘I have a surprise for you’ and it was my Christmas present. Then she waited a few minutes and said, ‘I have one more surprise for you,'” Kathy said. “I thought maybe it’s a puppy because my husband and I lost our dog.”

The present was definitely not a puppy. “She walks in, the ceiling falls down and I’m just like, ‘Who is that? What’s that?’” Kathy shared. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Paris explained why she chose to keep the news that she and her husband Carter Reum are expecting a baby via surrogate a secret from everyone, including their families.

For Paris, keeping the news that she was going to be a mother was a secret in order to keep an important part of her life private — something she has been unable to do in the past. “My life was just so public, my whole life was just invaded. I felt like I just wanted my baby to be born and just be here,” she said in part.

Paris also had a plan to make it up to her mother for not telling her about Phoenix’s impending arrival. She started by gifting her mother a blue Chanel bag before presenting her with her grandson. “I thought if I gave her Chanel first, maybe she wouldn’t be so upset that I didn’t tell her about it,” the DJ said.

She continued: “I held the baby on my shoulder with a blanket over him and then just sat down. She said, ‘What is that?’ And I said, ‘A baby… meet your grandson.’ She says, ‘Is that yours?’ And she starts crying. She says, “Let me hold him. He’s the most beautiful baby I’ve ever seen in my life. Oh, he’s so beautiful.” She was just in tears.”

Since then, Kathy has gotten over her shock and loves to visit her grandson. “I only left him three hours ago. He’s such a little angel,” she told Extra. “Getting heavier and heavier every few days.”
