Eli Lilly and Company said Wednesday it would lower the price of its most commonly prescribed insulins and expand a program that caps the monthly cost of ownership for patients to $35 or less.
It said the company was taking the actions to “help Americans who may be struggling to navigate a complex healthcare system that may be preventing them from getting affordable insulin.”
Insulin, a life-saving drug usually taken daily, has become increasingly expensive in recent years, and many diabetic patients are rationing or stopping their medication to save money. More than 30 million Americans are living with diabetes.
It comes after years of mounting criticism from Americans who have said the drug should be more accessible. The criticism led to lawsuits and laws.
