Costco On Thursday, Wall Street expectations exceeded quarterly profits and sales when the camp club achieved two-digit profits both the membership income and its e-commerce business.

In contrast to many other retailers, the company has no annual outlook.

At the company’s earnings authorization, CFO Gary Millerschip said that the retailer worked hard to compensate for higher tariff costs. In some cases, new articles from the Kirkland Signature brand were introduced as alternatives to goods that were hit by tariffs, he said. About a third of Costco’s US sales come from imported goods.

In some cases, Costco also changes its range of goods, e.g.

He said the overall inflation had remained in the area with low to medium section, with the food price increasing in the last quarter. For the second time in a row, however, he said that inflation had returned to non-food goods, which are mainly driven by imported objects.

The retailer’s shares were slightly in prolonged trading.

In the fourth quarter of the financial year, Costco did compared to what Wall Street expected, based on a survey of LSEG analysts:

Win each share: $ 5.87 compared to USD 5.80

Revenue: 86.16 billion US dollars expected compared to $ 86.06 billion

The net income of Costco for the three-month period, which rose to $ 2.61 billion or $ 5.87 per share compared to $ 2.35 billion or in the previous year of $ 5.29 per share. Sales rose of $ 79.7 billion in the same period last year.

Turnover with the same business, an industry metric, which takes out unique factors such as the openings and closures in store, rose by 6.4%without excluding the effects of gas prices and foreign exchange. This result, which was reported together with Costco’s sales figures in August, marks two quarters in a number of the same sales.

Sales with e-commerce increased by 13.5%compared to the same period in the previous year, except for the effects of changes in gas prices and foreign exchange.

Since the US consumers are looking for value, Costco and his Warehouse Club competitor have opened new locations and attracted more members. Younger buyers have registered for the shops because the retailers offer more comfortable options for buying online, a larger selection of goods and cheaper meals.

In an interview this summer, Millerschip informed CNBC that the average age of the members of the company had dropped and almost half of his new registrations of people under the age of 40 every year.

Costco’s sales, which includes net sales and member fees, also increased as members in age groups. The turnover of the year as a whole amounted to $ 275.24 billion, which rose by about 8.1% in the previous year compared to the previous year.

The member fee rose by 14%in the quarter, which reflects the increase in paying buyers and the higher fee. Last autumn it increased its member fee for the first time since 2017. Costco buyers now pay 5 USD more per year or $ 10 for their higher membership if their annual fee extends.

In the company’s profit and performance, CEO Ron Vachris said that Costco opened 27 new warehouses, including three moving. It is planned to open another 35 warehouses in the coming financial year, including five moving.

Traffic to the shops and the Costco website increased by 3.7%worldwide, said Millerschip on the call. In the meantime, the average transaction size worldwide increased by 2.6%, except for the change of gas and foreign exchange, he added.

The Costco shares have increased by around 180% in the past five years. However, the retailer has recently done the market below average, since this year the shares have increased to more than 12% compared to the S&P 500s compared to more than 12%.

On Costco’s last earnings call, executives were grilled about a problem few companies have: how is the company managing crowded stores and jammed-up parking lots?

That dilemma is a sign of the times for membership-based warehouse clubs. More Americans have literally joined the club — fueling growth for Costco, Walmart-owned Sam’s Club and BJ’s.

All three retailers are opening more locations across the country. Shares of the companies have shot up in the past five years, with Costco’s stock up about 215% and BJ’s up about 305% since the day the Covid pandemic began in March 2020. And Gen Z and millennial shoppers have helped fuel the club channel’s gains, as trendier brands and more convenient digital offerings attract younger shoppers.

High inflation “brought the club channel more and more into focus,” said Bobby Griffin, a consumer analyst at equity research firm Raymond James. The clubs have long been known as a place to buy cheaper gas or bulk packs of household staples for less.

Yet the companies have continued to “up the ante,” he said. Merchandise has gotten sharper, private label offerings have become stronger and the shopping experience has gotten more enjoyable as the retailers have spruced up stores and added more technology, he said.

Clubs have benefitted from an element of surprise, too. Along with selling bulk packs of paper towels and Keurig coffee pods, clubs have caught the attention of shoppers with items that tap into a desire for dupes or go viral on social media — such as Costco’s gold bars, which racked up more than $100 million in sales in a single quarter.

Along with the breakaway hit of gold bars, the many card-carrying members of Costco prompted an unusual message from the U.S. Transportation Security Administration this year. As the government agency phased in stricter requirements for ID cards, it announced across its social media accounts in June that Costco’s membership cards don’t count as a Real ID.

And Costco’s loyal fan following helped it to post strong sales — and attract support — despite some backlash for sticking by its diversity, equity and inclusion policies.

As they pick up newer and younger members, the warehouse clubs see more room for growth.

Sam’s Club earlier this year announced plans to open 15 clubs per year going forward, along with renovating its approximately 600 current clubs. It’s expanding its footprint again after shutting 63 locations across the country in 2018.

BJ’s plans to open 25 to 30 new clubs over the next two fiscal years. The smallest club player, which has historically had more locations on the East Coast, has broken into new markets like Texas by opening four locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

And Costco has stuck with an aggressive expansion plan of opening about 30 clubs per year, with just over half of those in the U.S. and the rest in other parts of the globe, CFO Gary Millerchip told CNBC. In early August, Costco opened four clubs in three different countries: Quebec, Canada; North Guadalajara, Mexico; The Villages in Florida and Richland, Washington.

Costco is opening some of its new locations this year in existing markets where its clubs are crowded, Millerchip said.

Club retailers still face pressure, though, including an uncertain job market and tariffs. The companies have laid out strategies to reduce their hit from the duties: Costco leaders, for example, said on an earnings call that they diverted imported merchandise with high tariffs to their warehouse clubs in other parts of the world instead of the U.S.

Clubs’ rotating brands and treasure hunt approach could reduce their vulnerability to tariffs. While the retailers sell imported merchandise like furniture and clothing, the bulk of sales come from groceries, and the retailers could swap out or drop an item hit by high tariffs, Griffin said.

BJ’s will carry more holiday items this year from the U.S. or countries with lower tariff exposure, said Bill Werner, BJ’s executive vice president of strategy and development.

As retailers digest the long-term effects of tariffs, Costco will give the latest read on its business, and the club channel, when it reports earnings on Thursday.

Sushi dinners and speedier shopping

The desire for both convenience and cheaper food options has been a boon to warehouse clubs in recent years. Instead of ordering from a restaurant, customers have turned to club chains to deliver dinner.

Earlier this year, Sam’s Club’s rotisserie chicken, which costs $4.98, and its hot pizzas, which cost $8.98 apiece, joined the list of items that members can get dropped at their doors. And starting last year, the retailer began setting up sushi stations where chefs make fresh rolls, which start at around $8 for a roll, in front of customers each day. It recently made sushi available for curbside pickup and delivery, too.

Those are examples of the way that warehouse clubs — notoriously low-tech and low-frills — have flipped the script in the digital age.

Sam’s Club has added sushi stations to its stores where chefs make the rolls fresh. The sushi can also be delivered by same-day delivery to customers’ homes.

Courtesy of Sam’s Club

In the past, shoppers made a tradeoff for lower prices at clubs, Sam’s Club CFO Todd Sears said. They faced long lines, waited to get receipts checked at the store exit and navigated a maze of aisles when trying to find an item.

“Experience wasn’t a huge element of the club channel,” Sears said in an interview. “In fact, it was kind of billed as the experience might be a little bit worse, but you’re going to make up for it with value.”

Now, curbside pickup, home delivery and new store tech has made the shopping experience faster and more pleasant, he said.

“Someone coming home for work can pop in and get out within three minutes and have a meal for home,” Sears said, noting the company is seeing more frequent club visits instead of just huge stock-ups.

Sam’s Club, in particular, has used tech to stand out from competitors. Customers can skip the checkout line by using Scan & Go, a feature in the retailer’s app that allows shoppers to ring up their own items while browsing the aisles. About 40% of its transactions are through Scan & Go, Sears said.

It’s leaned on other tech, too, including automated floor scrubbers that free up employees’ time to help customers and high-tech archways at the exits that verify most purchases automatically instead of requiring an employee to manually check a receipt.

BJ’s, too, has capitalized on speedier digital options that appeal to busy families and younger shoppers. E-commerce sales at the club jumped 34% in the most recent quarter compared to the year-ago period. CEO Bob Eddy described the digital gains as a “generational unlock” that’s attracted busy families and younger shoppers.

Digital offerings have become a popular and lucrative part of BJ’s business, Werner said. Same-day delivery orders tend to be about 25% to 30% bigger baskets than in-club shops, he said. It charges a $15 fee for the deliveries, or members can pay $100 per year for unlimited same-day deliveries.

Still, Werner said BJ’s biggest selling point “comes back to value” with its pledge to undercut typical grocery store prices by roughly 25%. Food and household essentials like laundry detergent drive about 85% of its sales, he said.

At Costco, the largest club player by size and stock price, have more than doubled over the last decade. Yet digital sales, while growing, account for only a small part of its overall sales.

About 8% of Costco’s business comes from e-commerce, excluding third-party deliveries from Instacart and travel bookings, CEO Ron Vachris said on the company’s May earnings call.

Over half of members have downloaded Costco’s app, but its digital business is still in the early stages, Millerchip said on the company’s earnings call. He said as Costco will keep adding customer-friendly features, such as making it easier to search for items or save a credit card to speed up checkout.

“We still see it [e-commerce] as an area where we’d expect to outpace our overall growth,” he said on its earnings call.

Younger shoppers, trendier brands

The retailers’ membership counts reflect how the U.S. has become a club nation.

Costco had nearly 80 million paid household members globally as of the end of its most recent quarter, which ended in mid-May. BJ’s, the smallest of the three club names, has grown to about 8 million members as of the most recently reported quarter, a 55% increase since it went public seven years ago.

Sam’s Club does not disclose its membership total, but its membership income grew nearly 8% in the U.S. in the most recent quarter. And its gains inspired the retailer to pledge this spring that it would double its membership over the next eight to 10 years.

Yet that growth is coming from a different kind of member. Along with soccer moms and big families, it’s drawn more Gen Z and millennial consumers. Those members include new homeowners, households without kids, and city dwellers who don’t have mortgages or abundant pantry space.

Sam’s Club’s fastest growing customer category is Gen Z and millennials, which have accounted for half of its membership growth for more than two years, Sears said.

Customers look over clothing items displayed on April 18, 2025 at a Costco branch in Niantic, Connecticut.

Costco’s Millerchip told CNBC that its average age of members has fallen, and just under half of its new members that sign up each year are now under age 40. He said the club’s popularity during the Covid pandemic, the ease of digital sign-ups and increased social media attention on Costco all contributed to that trend.

Customers between the ages of 25 and 34 are the fastest growing spending segment of the club channel when it comes to merchandise outside of the grocery department, according to market research firm Circana.

That age group’s spending on general merchandise at clubs rose by 3% for January to July 2025 compared to the same period in the year prior, according to Circana, which tracks checkout data across retailers.

All three warehouse clubs have broadened their merchandise and bulked up digital options, particularly since the Covid pandemic, said Marshal Cohen, a chief industry advisor for Circana.

Along with lower-priced private label versions of items like olive oil and paper towels, clubs carry children’s clothing and back-to-school supplies, sell giftable items like jewelry and offer lower-priced health and wellness items like hearing aids, contact lenses and vitamins. That’s given shoppers more reasons to return to their stores and websites between stock-ups.

“They’re curating not only the brands better, but creating a better sense of adventure for the shopper,” he said.

Plus, he said the “great migration” of younger Americans during the pandemic from smaller apartments in cities to bigger homes in the suburbs or rural areas created a new customer base.

The improved merchandise at clubs has caught the attention and ire of competitors as well. Lululemon filed a lawsuit against Costco in late June, alleging that the company violated patents by selling lower-priced dupes of its athleisurewear including hoodies, jackets and pants.

Costco’s CFO Millerchip declined to comment on the lawsuit.

Clubs have drawn both young and more established brands that want to get picked up by the retailers.

Wellness brand Frida, best known for popular baby supplies like the NoseFrida, is exploring how its products could be packaged and sold in a club, founder and CEO Chelsea Hirschhorn said. She said the club channel has become more appealing as it moves away from generic products and adds more modern brands.

For some members, including Patrick Bannon, club retailers’ eye-catching assortment can be a danger to the wallet. The 29-year-old graduate student joined Costco about two years ago. At least every other month, he drives to a nearby Costco for a shopping trip — even though the drive can take 45 minutes in traffic and on weekend and evening visits, it can be tricky to “move your cart more than an inch without running into somebody.”

For Bannon, it takes creativity to squeeze bulk purchases into the cabinets, freezer and fridge space of the one-bedroom apartment in the Boston area that he rents with his girlfriend.

In his apartment, he has currently stashed away five different types of protein bars, two pounds of frozen vegetables, two one-gallon jugs of vegetable oil and three or four pounds of frozen chicken.

He signed up for Costco to buy cheaper groceries and staples like trash bags, but he’s wound up purchasing giant bags of snacks, a new brand of cold brew coffee and even khaki pants.

“You get to be a kid in the candy store again,” he said. “Except it’s not all candy.”

Massachusetts submitted a lawsuit to the state court against Kalshi on Friday, in which the prediction platform was claimed to offer sports games without a license under the guise of event contracts.

“If Kalsi wants to be in the sports game business in Massachusetts, they have to receive a license and follow our laws,” said Andrea Joy Campbell, Attorney General of Massachusetts, in a press release.

The state also asks the court to prevent Kalshi from preventing sporting contracts in Massachusetts while the lawsuit is pending.

On Monday, Robinhood sued the state of Massachusett in expectation that it was the next processes against predictive markets. Robinhood offers its customers and sports transactions event contracts via the Kalshi platform and argued: “Massachusetts’ lawsuit and injunction could cause reputation damage and potentially criminal or civilian punishments.”

Event contracts are regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission as a predictive market. Kalshi has repeatedly argued before a federal court that the status of the CFTC as the federal authority replaces the state supervisory authorities.

Massachusetts, in the letter from the state at the Suffolk County Superior Court, claims that Kalshi earns more money for sports betting than legal, licensed sports books.

“Between February 25, 2025 and May 17, 2025, the sporting events made up around 70% of Kalshi’s trade volume, which from March 18, 2025 on 75% Stieg-Calshi’s first day, on which a game March Madness markets are offered,” says the lawsuit. “Kalshi did more of sports betting than licensed sports betting platforms Draftkings or Fanduel In the course of the same February to May Timeframe. “

A screenshot of the Kalshi platform in a lawsuit by the state of Massachusett against the predictive platform.

In response to the lawsuit, a Kalshi spokesman said: “Massachusetts tries to block Kalshi’s innovations by based on outdated laws and ideas.” The company said it was “ready to defend [its technology] Once again in a dish. “

A Kalshi spokesman announced CNBC that so far 439 million dollars WAGER had been made in NFL contracts.

The company has managed a national defense of sports forecast market markets. The company demonstrated oral arguments in an appointment by the state of New Jersey before the Court of Appeals of the 3rd Court, which was prevented from enforcing and deviating an interruption against Kalshi.

Long Beach, California-Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India, said that after the crash of one of its aircraft in June, the deadliest catastrophe in a decade, the aircraft had accepted a “new normal” and increased safety focus.

All of the 242 people on board Air India flight 171 were killed on June 12th when the Boeing Dreamliner, bound to London, plunged seconds after the start of Ahmedabad in West Indies. Another 19 other people were killed on the ground.

A preliminary report published in July showed confusion in the cockpit when fuel limitation switches were thrown off. The cockpit language recorded a pilot in which he asked the other why he replied the fuel and the others that he didn’t.

“The investigation has not yet been completed, so I cannot comment too freely, but this was an absolutely devastating event for the people involved, for families, for the company, for the staff, and our focus in the past two months was a lot to support you in every conceivable way,” said Wilson on Tuesday at the passenger association of the airline in Long Beach, California, on Tuesday, on Tuesday, on Tuesday.

Read more CNBC Airline News

“We continue to work with the regulatory authority on the investigation and ensure that the preliminary report on the aircraft is not concerned with anything wrong at the moment. The engines will not state anything wrong at the moment, nothing wrong with the Airlines surgery, but we have ensured a significant security break to ensure that it was affected,” he said.

Air India was in the middle of a massive modernization effort to compete better with other airlines at the time of the crash and to win new customers on the rapidly growing air market. The refreshment started after the Tata Group had privatized the government’s 93-year-old airline three years ago.

This revision continues with new cabins and better technologies, said Wilson, a veteran of the airline who previously served as CEO of Scoot, low-cost bearer from Singapore Airlines. The carrier has granted orders for around 570 aircraft.

“As soon as Air India has been privatized [we] Could assume more normal practices from the private sector, could make long -term decisions and invest the capital, ”he said.

The average interest rate for the 30-year-old festival mortgage fell back to 6.29% on Friday after the publication of a weaker employment report in August.

It marks the lowest rate since October 3 and the largest one-day decline since August 2024. The rates finally break out of the high range of 6%in which they have been stuck for months.

“This was a fairly simple reaction to a job that is highly expected,” said Matt Graham, Chief Chief Operating Officer from Mortgage News. “It is a good memory that the market can decide what is important in terms of economic data, and the bond market has a clear voting balance that indicates that the job report is always the greatest potential volatility source for interest rates.”

Graham said in one post on X that many lenders “were better rated than on October 3” and would quote 5% within a high range.

The waste is a significant change compared to May if the rate has reached 7.08%for the 30-year permanent place. It is great that buyers buy a house today, especially in the face of high real estate prices.

For example, we take someone who buys a house of $ 450,000 that is just above the national middle price in August with a 30-year-old fixed mortgage with a deposit of 20%. The monthly payment with 7% without taxes or insurance would be $ 2,395. At 6.29%, this payment would be $ 2.226, a difference of $ 169 per month.

A sign will be offered for sale in front of a house on August 27, 2025 in San Francisco, California.

Justin Sullivan | Getty pictures

For some, that may not sound like a lot, but it can mean the difference not only to afford a house, but also qualify for a mortgage.

Homebuilder shares reacted positively on Friday, with names like LennarPresent Dr. Hoard And The desk All in about 3% lunch. Homebuilding ETF ITB Has run hot for the last month because the tariffs are slowly lower. It is almost 13%last month.

The big question is whether the decline in prices will be sufficient to bring buyers back onto the market.

The mortgage demand from home buyers, an early indicator, still has to react to the gradual improvement of interest rates. According to the Mortgage Bankers Association, applications for a mortgage to buy a home in the past week was 6.6% lower compared to four weeks earlier.

“Buyers ensure lack of affordability, sellers fight with more competition and the builders are dealing with a lower demand from buyers,” said Danielle Hale, chief economist at Realtor.com, in a statement on Friday after the employment report was published in August. “These conditions have not written a disaster, but have created a cruel summer for the real estate market.”

Some analysts have argued that buyers have to see mortgage interest rates in the range of 5% before it really makes a difference. Real estate prices remain stubborn, and although the profits have definitely cooled down, they are not yet due to the national level. In addition, uncertainty about the state of the economy and the labor market has left many potential buyers on the side.

A new move by states to tax the real estate of the rich has triggered a counter -reaction among brokers and potential buyers who say that taxes punish the most important local expenses.

From tax increases to expensive second houses in Rhode Island and Montana to Cape Cods, transmission tax for houses over 2 million US dollars and the LA Mansion Tax see the state and local governments in the expensive real estate of the rich.

“It is a slap on the face for people who only spend money here,” said Donna Krueger-Simmons, sales agent at Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International in Watch Hill, Rhode Island.

The tax increases are powered by stricter state budgets and populist trouble over the housing costs. The states would like to compensate for the budget cuts expected by the new tax and expenditure calculation in Washington. At the same time, the real estate market has become a story of two buyers, with the middle class and younger families difficult to afford a houses, thriving by wealthy all-cash buyers during the luxury housing market.

The solution for many states: tax the houses of the rich.

Go directly to your inbox in the assets

The new submission of Rhode Island with the nickname “The Taylor Swift Tax” is one of the most extreme. The pop star bought a beach house in the Elite Watch Hill Community of the state in 2013.

The measure leads to a new surcharge for second houses worth more than 1 million US dollars. For non-primary residential buildings or those who are not occupied for more than 182 days a year, the state will charge USD $ 2.50 for every estimated value of $ 500 over the first $ 1 million. This indictment is against existing property taxes and will lead to large increases for luxury houses in Newport, Watch Hill and other well -laid -back summer communities in the state.

According to local real estate records, Swift’s house is rated to around 28 million US dollars. Your current property taxes are estimated at around 201,000 US dollars a year. The new fees will give their annual taxes a further 136,442 US dollars and increase their annual total to 337,442 US dollars -although the locals say that they rarely visit.

Real estate agents say that the increase is aimed at taxpayers who already contribute the most. Wealthy second home owners pay strong property taxes, but do not use many local services because their main residences in New York are. Boston; Palm Beach, Florida; Or other places. Your children usually do not attend local schools and they are only rare users of the police, fire, water and other municipal services, since most of them only remain 10 to 12 weeks a year.

“These are people who simply come here for the summer, spend their money and pay their fair share of taxes,” said Krueger-Simmons. “They are punished just because they live elsewhere.”

Brokers and long -time residents say that the summer residents of Newport, Watch Hill and other seasonal beach cities are the economic engines for local companies, restaurants and hotels.

“They only hurt the people who support small businesses,” said Lori Joyal from the Lila Delman Compass Office in Watch Hill. “They pursue the people who spend most of the money in these cities.”

From October, Rhode Island will also move its transport tax to luxury impodes. The tax of real estate sales is an additional $ 3.75 for every 500 US dollars, which is paid for over 800,000 for a real estate purchase. At the same time, the steep estate tax of the state holds many of the ultra-rich to live there full-time.

Brokers say that some owners sell in the second home and many prospective buyers pause their purchases. While the tax increase alone will not lead to a significant wealth flight, potential buyers in Rhode Island are already considering the coastal cities in Connecticut as alternatives.

“It’s always about decisions,” she said. “At the end of the day it is about how to spend their discretionary dollars. Connecticut has some beautiful coastal cities without some of these other high taxes.”

File – In this May 27, 2013, people pass a house that Taylor Swift heard in the village of Watch Hill in Western, RI,

Dave Collins | AP

Montana has fulfilled a similar tax. The influx of Californians and other wealthy newcomers that flow into the state during the covid has led to rising real estate prices and a growing resentment over gentrification. In the meantime, the low tax rate and the lack of sales tax of the state left little space for increasing sales for the necessary increase in services.

In May, the state passed a two -stage property tax plan, which reduces interest rates for full -time residents and taxes are increased to second houses and short -term rents. The tax rate is 0.76%for primary residences and long -term rents worth or below the state’s middle home price. Houses that are more than the value will be exposed to a level ratio system of up to 1.9% compared to the value of four times the middle price.

The Montana Ministry of Sales expects the changes that will begin next year to increase the second home tax taxes by an average of 68%. Brokers say some buyers are waiting to see the tax invoices next year before making decisions about whether they should buy or sell.

“I heard from some buyers who set up the brakes to wait for the dust to settle to see what is happening,” said Valerie Johnson with Purewest Christie’s International Real Estate in Bozeman, Montana.

Johnson said that taxes were advertised by the legislators as the owner of the wealthy second home owners, but also meet long -standing locals and will rent them for income.

“These are small companies for many people,” she said.

Manish Bhatt, a high -ranking political analyst in the tax foundation, said tax increases that are aimed at wealthy owners from a second home could be politically popular, but they rarely ensure a successful or efficient tax policy. The reform of the property tax should be widespread instead of concentrating on taxpayers who are picked up just because they do not live in a community full -time, he said.

“There are income at the moment,” he said. “But the taxation of the second home could have the opposite effect-to keep people from having a second home or still having in these communities.”

While the new taxes alone may not drive away the rich, “we know that taxes are important for companies and individuals and that people could cause people to make a decision to buy in another nearby state,” said BHATT.

The forecast income from the new taxes can also disappoint. When Los Angeles adopted his so-called “manor house tax” in 2022, the advocates observed revenue projections between $ 600 million and $ 1.1 billion a year. According to the Los Angeles Housing Department, the tax, which was imposed in real estate sales over 5 million US dollars, has only collected $ 785 million after more than two years.

Experts say higher interest rates that harm the real estate market have played a role. But Michael Manville, Professor of Urban Planning at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, said that wealthy buyers and sellers also reduced the transactions to response to the wheel.

“The lower income is one reason to be affected because it indicates that the tax may reduce the transactions, which in turn can reduce production and property tax revenue for the property,” he said.

Flowers, succulents and Formula -1 racing cars carried a sales bump of 12% for Lego in the first half of the year.

The company reported a record of 34.6 billion Danish crown or 5.4 billion US dollars on Wednesday. Operating profit rose 10% to 9 billion Danish crown or 1.4 billion US dollars compared to the previous year, the company said.

“It is the best first half of all time,” said Niels Christiansen, CEO of Lego, to CNBC. “It is a record for sales, a record for operating profit, a record for net profit. … So we are very happy.”

The brick manufacturer started 314 new sets in the first six months of the year, another record high. LEGO has constantly added its portfolio to new products and branched out with wall art sets in residential culture. It also added new license partners and published sets that are connected to the animated children’s program “Bluey” and the fan favorite anime “One Piece”.

Next is a multi -year partnership with Pokemon due to the goals on the shelves in 2026.

“You can always find something that you really like, the pop culture you are in, or the passage point you have,” said Christiansen. “It works really well.”

When expanding its product catalog, Lego also expanded its consumer base. Goals in the brand such as its botany-line plants, bouquets and succulent and its ongoing partnership with epic game, LEGO in digital space and the elements of the popular video game Fortnite bring newcomers to the area of the brick building, said Christians.

“Then find out what it is and what it does for you, how it enables you to express yourself, but also to reduce stress and concentrate on things in other ways,” he said. “Botanical sets are good in recruiting new consumers into the brand, and as soon as they build up their botanical set, they can build something else.”

Lego opened 24 new businesses worldwide in the first six months of the year. The company has opened more physical retail locations in areas in which, unlike Great Britain and the USA, the legendary colored bricks did not grow up. This includes countries like China and India.

The stationary places where children and adults can get legos in their hands and see the available sets has previously contributed to increasing sales.

Earning money in summer is not as easy for airlines.

The airlines made their schedules for various reasons in August. Some travelers choose to fly earlier, in June or even in May, since the schools previously left out than before. The demand for flights to Europe has also moved from the humid, overcrowded summer to autumn, according to the leaders of the airlines, especially for travelers with more flexibility such as retirees.

The airlines still earn most of their money in the second and third quarter. But when travel issue has shifted and in some cases the customers have become unpredictable, which makes the third quarter less for airlines.

Change of plans, more expensive tickets

Flight planners were forced to become more surgical in August, as the leisure demand is rejuvenated by late spring and summer summit. After the pandemic, workers and other costs have dropped so that the mixture of flights is correct.

The airlines in the industry have taken flights from the schedule after an overhang with too much capacity has reduced tariffs this summer. However, the capacity cuts should continue to increase the flight prices that rose 0.7% in July in July and, according to the last US inflation, a seasonally adjusted jump from 4% from June to July.

The domestic capacity of the US airlines fell by 6% in August, according to the aviation data company Cirium. In the same period of the previous year, they lowered the domestic capacity of a little more than 4% compared to only a reduction of 0.6% between the months in 2023, said Cirium. From July to August 2019, airlines lowered 1.7% of the capacity.

The airlines that bet on a blockbuster year remained disappointed in 2025 when Donald Trump's on-again tariffs and economic uncertainty had used. In order to attract more customers, many airlines shortened prices, even for flights to the summer peaks at the end of June and July.

The demand has improved, the Airline executives have shared with winning shots in recent months, but carriers including the airlines deltaAmerican, United And southwest Last month, their profit forecasts of 2025 lowered compared to their sunnier views at the beginning of the year.

Until the last minute, some travelers have been waiting for further aggravating matters to book flights.

“It was really, I would say in mid -May when we started seeing the Memorial Day bookings, increasing.” Jetblue Airways President Marty St. George told investors last month. “We had a fantastic commemoration day, much better than the forecast, and that really managed until June. But it has the feeling that people have only been waiting for a long time to make the final decisions.”

There are always next year

Now some airlines are already thinking about how they can deal with constantly changing travel patterns next year.

“Schools go back earlier and earlier, but they also see that schools come out earlier and earlier,” Brian Znotins, American airlines'Vice President for Network Planning and Submission, said CNBC.

The public schools in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, returned on August 5, and Atlanta's public schools resumed on August 4th. In 2023, more than half of the country's public students returned to the classrooms in mid -August, according to the Pew Research Center.

Southwest ended his summer plan on August 5 of this year with his Texas roots, compared to August 15 in 2023.

“We are moving our entire summer plan the week before the Memorial Day,” said Znotin. “This is just a reaction to schools that are left out in spring.” These plans include the additions of a variety of long -haul flights.

“We are a year -round airline,” he continued. Znotins said that the wearer not only had to make sure that there are enough seats for peak times, but also know when they have to reduce in lighter quarters, as in the first three months of the year.

“For a network planner, the more difficult schedules for which there are less demand is because they can not only count among their flights when asked,” said Znotin. “If demand is lower, you have to find ways to win customers with a good quality plan and the product changes.”

American said his schedule after sitting in August 2019 was at the level in July 2019, but this year he was 6% lower in August.

The American forecast in the last month could lose an adjusted 10 cents up to 60 cents per share in the third quarter, which awaits the analysts. CEO Robert Isom said about a profit call that “July was hard”, although the airline tells that the trends have improved.

The capacity cuts recently promoted a better offer and demand talks for a better offer and a demand talke in the coming weeks.

“The mistake that some airlines make, try to build a church for Easter Sunday: they build their capacity basis for these peak times and then have far too many [employees]”, Said Raymond James Airline Analyst Savanthi Syth.

She said it was unusual that airlines trimmed their summer plans across the board before even the peak time ended, but it is optimistic about demand and tariffs in the future.

“Time has passed and people get a little more certainty about what their future looks like and they are more willing to spend,” she said.

After Spirit dismantled his debts during the restructuring, he tried to attract bookings by marketing more high -quality products and looking for new opportunities to reduce costs. At the end of the last month, the airline announced plans to answer 270 pilots more this autumn.

“However, the company was still affected by the undesirable market conditions, including an increased domestic capacity and the continued demand for household trips in the second quarter of 2025, which leads to a challenging price environment,” said the company in its quarterly report in late Monday.

Read more CNBC Airline News

Since the financial results do not improve in the same pace agreements, Spirit requires additional cash. If this is not the case, this can lead to default settings. The airline would like to sell some aircraft, real estate or airport gates, it said.

“Due to the uncertainty of successfully fulfilling the initiatives to comply with the minimum liquidity tests and the results of discussions with the parties involved in society, the management has concluded that there is considerable doubts about the company's ability to continue within 12 months from the date on which these financial statements were issued,” says the submission.

The bankruptcy of the Spirit last year has been the first for a large US airline since 2011.

Spirit was known for his bright yellow aircraft and was a pioneer of the budget company in the USA, but had through after a failed acquisition Jetblue Airways Last year, the consumer tasted of upscale products and a motor call call that has grounded many of his planes.
