Amber Heard makes her first red carpet appearance since the trial

Aquaman actress Amber Heard returned to the red carpet a year after the defamation trial against her and ex-husband Johnny Depp ended. On June 23, Heard promoted her upcoming film, In the Fire, at the Taormina Film Festival in Italy.

Heard smiled as she walked the red carpet (which was technically teal) wearing a long black dress accented by a cape at the shoulders. The actress wore her blonde hair loose and in loose curls. In photos from the event, Heard can be seen laughing with her co-stars, including Luca Calvani and Eduardo Noriega, and with the film’s director, Conor Allyn. She also appeared in photos with William “Billy” Baldwin, who attended the festival to promote his animated film “Billie’s Magic World” and stopped by to sign autographs for fans.

Since the trial ended in June 2022, Heard had largely stayed out of the spotlight. A jury ruled that the “London Fields” star was blamed for slandering Depp in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed about domestic violence. Heard was ordered to pay Depp $10 million, but she ended up suing him for $100 million. A jury also ordered Depp to pay Heard $2 million after his attorney claimed she committed a “joke.”

Although both appealed the jury’s decisions, Depp and Heard finally settled their case in December last year. Heard agreed to pay Depp $1 million, which he reportedly plans to split across five charities. For his part, Depp returned to the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in May to promote Jeanne du Barry.

In addition to promoting In the Fire, which has yet to be released, Heard will also appear in Aquaman 2. The DC movie is slated to hit theaters in December. Both films were shot before the trial.
